5 Best Indian Restaurants in Malaysia for Authentic Eats

Culinary Authenticity: We prioritised kitchens that rely on traditional subcontinental cooking methodologies and custom clay tandoors.

This ensures every single gravy features multi-layered, genuine flavours rather than lazy commercial shortcuts.

Ingredient Provenance: Our team looked for venues that source premium spices and maintain strict zoning separations for vegetarian production lines.

This guarantees complete dietary governance for multi-generational families and strict Jain diners.

Spatial Excellence: The physical hospitality environments were evaluated to ensure smooth service flow and comfortable seating arrangements.

Pricing Transparency: We carefully analysed regional hospitality metrics to select dining spots that present clear, itemised menu maps upfront.

Finding an exceptional meal that hits all the right spice notes can completely transform your week, especially when tracking down the best Indian restaurants in Malaysia.

Our vibrant local food scene is absolutely bursting with options, but finding that perfect smoky tandoori or a truly authentic southern banana leaf spread requires a bit of insider knowledge.

Whether you’re looking for an upscale dining room for a corporate dinner or just craving a casual weekend comfort feast, we’ve done the delicious legwork for you.

If you ever want to switch up your weekly dining routine, you can also explore fantastic Japanese restaurants or check out top-rated Chinese restaurants around town. But today is entirely about celebrating spectacular subcontinental flavours.

How much do Indian restaurants cost in Malaysia?

1. House of Sagar Restaurant

Address: 4, Lorong Maarof, Bangsar Park, Kuala Lumpur

Contact: +60 3-2284 2532

Hours:

Tuesday to Thursday: 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM to 10:30 PM

Friday to Sunday: 11:30 AM to 10:30 PM

Sinking your teeth into beautifully charred, smoky meats becomes an absolute joy at House of Sagar Restaurant.

The kitchen focuses entirely on proper Northern Indian flavours, bringing rich, slow-simmered gravies and fiery tandoori specials right to your table.

You can choose from an incredible menu featuring over three hundred curated dishes that celebrate deep Punjabi and Mughlai traditions.

Ambience-wise, the grand dining room handles massive corporate banquets effortlessly, reflecting their extensive history of serving high-profile diplomats.

However, because the culinary focus is strictly northern, you’re completely out of luck if your group is craving coastal curries or southern banana leaf options.

It’s a slight shame for multi-regional food lovers, but the rich buttery breads and exceptional tandoor selections easily compensate for the narrow regional scope.

Pros

  • Over 300 curated northern dishes
  • Massive corporate banquet setup
  • Experienced high-profile diplomatic hosting
  • Exceptional smoky clay tandoor specials

Cons

  • Strict northern regional focus

It operates under the guidance of Chef Uthaman, who brings over twenty years of professional culinary experience to the table.

Ditching artificial additives is a massive priority for health-conscious food lovers, which makes Mollagaa Restaurant a true sanctuary.

This welcoming dining room delivers a wonderful home-cooked vibe, focusing heavily on traditional Chettinad-style meals while completely avoiding any added MSG (monosodium glutamate).

Every single afternoon, the friendly floor staff lays out fresh banana leaves to serve up classic, unlimited southern comfort spreads.

You can complement your fiery meal with authentic regional drinks like a rich Jigarthanda or a comforting cup of South Indian Degree Kappi.

Seafood enthusiasts will also love their coastal specialties, particularly the fiery pomfret pollychathu cooked in local spices.

However, the true Chettinad cooking here delivers an incredibly intense punch of heat that can easily overwhelm you if you generally prefer milder flavours.

Pros

  • Completely free from added MSG
  • Daily traditional banana leaf feasts
  • Authentic southern heritage specialty drinks
  • Exceptional spicy coastal pomfret dishes

Cons

  • Usually on the spicy side

Customer Reviews:

Overall good experience

Nice restaurant situated on the first floor. Around lunch time there was a short queue as the place seems quite popular. Food was very tasty and arrived quite fast. There was noone to show me which table I can take which was very confusing. Overall good experience at this place if you want to try Indian food.

Each component, from the fragrant rice to the perfectly spiced curries and crispy sides, complemented each other beautifully. The freshness of the ingredients, generous portions, and traditional serving style made it a memorable dining experience. Highly recommended for anyone craving a hearty, flavorful, and comforting South Indian meal.

Address: No.8 Lorong Maarof, Bangsar Park, 59000 Kuala Lumpur

Contact: 03 – 2210 7369

Hours: Daily: 11:30 AM – 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Diving into the delicate, aromatic seafood traditions of Kerala becomes an unforgettable experience in Gajaa at 8.

The kitchen specialises in real-deal southern coastal recipes prepared with pure coconut oil and rich coconut milk to capture the authentic spirit of the region.

Their standout masterpiece is definitely the fish pollichathu, where a whole seabass is wrapped carefully in a banana leaf with tangy tamarind gravy.

A close colleague of mine regularly hosts VIP clients here, and she always raves about the beautiful dual-vibe layout that perfectly accommodates quiet business discussions. They also offer excellent customizable catering layouts for large corporate events.

Just bear in mind that their beverage menu features surprisingly limited lassi flavours to soothe your tongue after a spicy dish.

Pros

  • Authentic coconut-based Kerala coastal cooking
  • Signature tangy whole seabass pollichathu
  • Elegant dual-vibe bungalow estate layout
  • Fully customizable corporate catering packages

Cons

  • Surprisingly limited lassi flavor options

Customer Reviews:

So balanced and tasty food

It is a beautiful, quiet Indian restaurant with red, round tables. So balanced and tasty food, where nowadays, you find highly spicy flavors in other Indian restaurants. I liked all the dishes we ordered: Kerala-style egg curry, cheese naan, egg appam, paratha, and others.

Delicious Indian food

Delicious Indian food place. Had the kanthari fish for starters, which is tasty, if a little thick with the batter. We also has the chetha kozzi curry (my fav) and the mutton melagu kuzhambu (very tender and bursting with flavors, as described). Very helpful and friendly staff. Nice ambience, although the music is a tad loud. The place has pretty limited parking (since it’s Lorong Maarof) but they have a kinda valet so you can park by the side and pass them your key. Very thoughtful. Price: about RM200+ for 4 pax

5. India Gate Restaurant @Bangsar

Website:https://www.indiagate.my/

Address: Jalan Telawi 2, Bangsar

Contact: 03 2391 0074

Hours: Monday to Sunday: 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM

Satisfying a late-night craving for deep, smoky subcontinental spices is incredibly easy at India Gate Restaurant @Bangsar.

The bustling kitchen serves up an award-winning selection of clay-oven meats alongside their famous bamboo biryani well into the midnight hours.

This signature biryani is an absolute masterpiece of flavour, featuring seasoned rice and tender meats steam-cooked directly inside a fresh bamboo trunk to seal in the aromas.

Their tandoori menu is similarly massive, offering everything from succulent chicken malai tikka to giant shared platters for large corporate groups.

They even secured the prestigious SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) Brand Excellence Award to prove their quality consistency.

However, because this brand is a rapidly expanding regional chain, it can occasionally lack that intimate, independent boutique charm.

Pros

  • Earthy steam-cooked signature bamboo biryani
  • Open daily until midnight hours
  • SME Brand Excellence award winner
  • Massive group-friendly tandoori shared platters

Cons

  • Lacks intimate, independent boutique charm
