5 Best Preschools in Malaysia That’ll Put Your Kids on the Right Track

  • Educational Approach — We prioritised preschools with well-structured curricula that support early learning, creativity, and overall child development.

  • Facilities and Environment — We favoured centres that offer safe, clean, and engaging spaces designed for young learners.

  • Transparency — We looked for schools that clearly outline fees, programmes, schedules, and what’s included for parents.

  • Student Experience — We selected preschools known for nurturing environments, interactive activities, and positive feedback from families.

My niece once came home from a practice class proudly counting to ten…and then confidently jumping straight to twenty like she’d unlocked a shortcut. The confidence was impressive, even if the maths needed a bit of fine-tuning.

That little moment made us realise how much early learning shapes the way kids think, speak, and explore the world. The right preschool doesn’t just teach—it builds curiosity and confidence from the start.

So we started looking into preschool programmes across Malaysia that parents genuinely trust. Here are the options known for creating strong foundations while still making learning fun.

How much does a preschool enrollment in Malaysia cost?

In Malaysia, monthly preschool fees range from RM100 to RM500 for government kindergartens and RM500 to RM2,000 for private centres.
International preschools typically charge between RM12,000 and RM12,500 per year, depending on the school’s tier and location.

JoyKids International Preschool immediately impressed us with how complete the facilities for early childhood learning are. It’s dedicated pre-nursery, nursery, and preschool spaces, plus activity programs like gymnastics, football, ballet, music, and art.

Smaller class sizes play a major role here, with regular classes capped at 10 students and specialist sessions limited to 15. The setup allows teachers to give children more individual attention, which several parents highlighted when we talked to them.

Their blend of Montessori and IB (Inquiry-Based) curricula also stood out. Instead of relying heavily on memorisation, the school focuses on inquiry-based learning and curiosity-driven activities.

We liked how they encourage collaboration, problem-solving, and confidence-building from an early age. Parents even described the staff as energetic, attentive, and genuinely passionate about helping children grow academically and socially.

That’s why it’s no surprise that their enrollment fees are definitely on the premium side, though we could also see where the investment goes.

Pros

  • Small classes
  • Strong facilities
  • Engaging curriculum

Cons

  • Pricey

Great environment and friendly teachers

“As a parents, we always figure out where to place our daughter and of course we want the best for her & after awhile of research, we found JoyKids. Great environment, friendly teachers. Without hesitation, we send her here. It turns out our daughter really had fun & always comes back home with new knowledge & good behaviour. Since then, i’ve never look for another Preschool again.”

Taska Precious Steps Montessori Preschool and Childcare Center carries a warm, close-knit vibe with classrooms that feel active and engaging. They put plenty of emphasis on creativity, independence, and social interaction.

Their Montessori-based approach is also blended with the Starlight Education Program, which covers practical life skills, storytelling, science, language, sensory, and character-building lessons.

The fees are definitely on the higher side, especially for families looking for long-term childcare arrangements. Still, many parents felt the support justified the cost, particularly those with children needing more personalised attention.

Moreover, one family actually mentioned during our visit that the teachers here customised a learning programme for their child with autism. This helped the child transition successfully into a Chinese primary school within a year.

It’s really good to know that their teachers are patient, experienced, and invested in each child’s emotional and academic growth.

Pros

  • Caring teachers
  • Holistic learning
  • Inclusive environment

Cons

  • Pricey

Kids can learn so much here

“Our 4 yo daughter attended Taska Precious Steps full-time for 2 months, while we were visiting from the US to spend time with family. She has learned more in these 2 months than in the 2 previous years at her San Francisco private preschool. Not only did her reading, writing, and math skills rocket, but she also learned so much about plants and about Malaysian culture. She still remembers the Chinese and Malay songs she learned at Precious Steps! After we returned to  San Francisco, she quickly became top of her new TK class. Most importantly, she was happy and excited to learn at Precious Steps. The team made her feel supported and loved and helped her adjust to all the changes in her school routine (schedule, rigor, new friends, new language, even the heat!). I wholeheartedly recommend Taska Precious Steps to anyone looking for a rigorous but caring and supportive education for their preschoolers.  I wish I could import them to the US!”

Wonderful learning place

“A wonderful learning place with a team of passionate and dedicated teachers. Love their programs, which give enough space for children to play, explore, and learn at the same time. My daughter has been enjoying going to school at TPS. Love their Show and Tell sessions, which encourage children to speak and tell what they’ve learnt and experienced. Seeing her thriving at TPS from preschool to K1 has been the best decision I’ve made.”

The Orange Tree Preschool immediately stood out to us because of how their programmes are much more polished and structured compared to other local preschools.

They strongly focus on nurturing confidence, communication, and independence instead of simply preparing children to memorise lessons.

Their curriculum is tailored according to each child’s developmental pace, supported by experienced Early Childhood Specialists and low teacher-to-child ratios.

We also liked how the school balances academics with enrichment activities, Mandarin lessons, outdoor learning, and social interactions. The playgroup classes start as young as 18 months, while the full-day programme includes meals and extended care options.

But one thing parents may need to consider is that some programmes can run until 6 PM, which may feel like a long day for younger children. Even so, many families appreciated the flexibility, especially working parents juggling busy schedules.

Pros

  • Structured curriculum
  • Small classes

Cons

  • Long class hours

Strong foundation for the kids

“Both my children attended Orange Tree Preschool. My daughter is 7 years old now and attending primary 1 in Chinese school. I am grateful and privileged to be able to send my kids there as they build a strong foundation for the kids in all the subjects, especially Chinese, if they are going to Chinese school. Most importantly, teachers are loving, caring, and dedicated. Not a single child is born to be not capable. Each of them is gifted in their own way, the key to unleashing their potential is patience, loving, and dedicated teachers (of course, other elements as well, but in terms of learning and adapting to school, teachers play a critical role). Management is approachable for feedback and discussion for the improvement and betterment of the kids.”

Dedicated, kind, and loving teachers

“My child attended The Orange Tree Preschool from Nursery 1 until now. We had visited a few other schools, but loved The Orange Tree preschool the most. The management is excellent as well as the teachers there, who are all very dedicated, kind, loving, and caring. They also listen to parents feedback where appropriate and helpful for the kids learning. Furthermore, they have very strict SOPS regarding the health and safety of the children. They have a library for the kids to read books while waiting for their parents to pick them up. What we loved the most is that they are bilingual, so they may prepare my child well for SJKC Primary 1, whether it’s for a local or an international school, as their standard of teaching all 3 languages is high, especially for Mandarin. If you’re looking for a school that is holistic, supportive, fun, academic, and also prepares your child for primary school, I would definitely recommend The Orange Tree 🌳 Preschool.”

Little Playhouse Preschool and Childcare Centre earns major points for its location alone. Sitting right in KL Sentral at Menara Shell, it feels designed for working parents rushing between trains and office schedules without adding extra stress to the day.

The campus itself feels modern and thoughtfully planned, with spacious classrooms, interactive learning zones, and a dedicated daycare that prioritises both safety and comfort.

According to the parents we spoke with, the teachers are attentive and encouraging, especially when supporting introvert students. They’ve even noticed improvements in their children’s confidence and communication skills for learning after enrolling here.

It’s also due to how their curriculum blends structured academics with creative activities, music, communication exercises, and confidence-building programmes.

Just a heads-up, though: school inquiries and tours are usually scheduled, which can be slightly inconvenient for parents hoping to do a quick walk-in visit. Hence, the organised system makes the campus feel more secure and controlled overall.

Pros

  • Strategic location
  • Caring teachers
  • Modern facilities

Cons

  • Schedule appointments

They take good care of their students

“We are a Spanish family living in KL, and from the interview we did, we knew our children would go there. We have three children, ages 2, 4, and 6. Imagine how happy they are! They started from 8:00 to 2:30 pm and decided to stay longer; now we pick them up at 6:30 pm. They are very happy. They do many different activities every day: crafts, math, writing, experiments, gymnastics, dance. They are fed, rest, shower, and get cleaned up. For us, it’s a real luxury that they are taught these values from such a young age. What can I say about the teachers? There are two teachers per class. The attention the children receive is incredible; they listen to them, value them, respect them, and comfort them. In short, we recommend this place to all parents, as their children will be safe from day one. We will be at KL for six months, and we know our children will cry when we leave. Thank you to all the team for taking such good care of them. Thank you!”

Students always love to go to this school

“Thank you, teachers, at Little Playhouse, for taking care of my son. He really loves to go to school. The teachers, management, and staff are very friendly and supportive. The methods they use to approach kids are gentle and respect their own pace of development, helping them have a suitable environment to grow.”

We included Precious Lambs Kindergarten on this list because it places just as much emphasis on character-building as academics, and honestly, that balance feels harder to find these days.

The school has been operating since 1992, and its long-running Starlight curriculum clearly reflects years of refinement and hands-on early childhood experience.

Their approach combines Montessori learning, thematic exploration, and play-based activities to encourage creativity, independence, and problem-solving skills.

We were especially fond of the Home Heroes initiative, where children are encouraged to help with simple household responsibilities to build confidence and accountability at an early age.

Moreover, the classrooms feel nurturing rather than overly rigid, with plenty of hands-on activities like cooking, art, storytelling, and outdoor learning woven into the programme.

Parents were also pleased with how teachers communicated warmly and guided children with patience and consistency.

Pricing is surprisingly reasonable considering the depth of the curriculum and personalised attention.

However, inquiry responses can occasionally take longer than expected during busy enrolment periods. That said, once communication gets going, staff will provide all the necessary details and answer questions with enthusiasm.

Pros

  • Character building
  • Caring teachers
  • Hands-on learning
  • Reasonable pricing

Cons

  • Slow replies

Professional, dedicated, and warm teachers

“We are deeply grateful for the wonderful three years our child spent in Precious Lambs Kindergarten. The teachers, and especially Principal Tabitha, have shown exceptional dedication, warmth, and professionalism. They have nurtured good behaviour, built strong character, and laid a meaningful foundation for our child’s future. We truly appreciate all the love, patience, and guidance given throughout this journey.”

Kids are always happy and confident here

“The principal, Ms Tabitha, is the heart of this kindergarten. She leads with passion, kindness, and genuine care for every child.  The kindergarten always has some fun activities, creative events, and thoughtful planning.  I have enrolled both of my kids, and they have built a good foundation in every subject. My kids like the food prepared by the school, especially the chicken mushroom carbonara …My child has grown in confidence and happiness. Highly recommended.”
