MAYI Yoga Academy: Traditional Hatha Yoga with a Modern, Inclusive Approach
Stepping into an institution that has trained over 1,900 certified instructors gives you an immediate sense of experience and credibility. Established in 2000, MAYI Yoga Academy (MAYI) has grown into a well-established yoga institution with six branches across Kuala Lumpur, offering traditional yoga education alongside accessible fitness and wellness programmes.
At the heart of MAYI’s teaching is authentic Hatha Yoga, preserving traditional techniques and principles while making them accessible to modern practitioners. The academy was founded by Master Manisekaran, who developed its comprehensive syllabus and continues to be associated with its traditional Hatha Yoga foundation.
MAYI serves a dual purpose — it is an academy offering regular fitness and wellness programmes, as well as a registered school for professional yoga certification. Selected professional courses are also HRD Corp claimable, providing an added advantage for organisations and individuals looking to invest in structured training and professional development.
When we visited the studio on a Saturday morning, we appreciated the instructor’s clear and systematic approach. Complex postures were broken down into simple, manageable steps, making the practice easy to follow. Attention was also given to individual alignment, helping participants develop greater awareness of their practice.
Another strength is MAYI’s inclusive approach. Its programmes cater to children, adults and seniors, making yoga accessible across different stages of life and levels of experience. For businesses, MAYI’s also conducts on-site corporate yoga sessions, bringing the practice directly to the workplace in addition to its regular in-house classes.
With its combination of traditional Hatha Yoga, structured education and programmes for different age groups, MAYI’s offers a well-rounded environment for those looking to practise yoga, improve their fitness or pursue formal yoga teacher training.
One practical point to note is the cancellation policy: classes must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a session charge.

The session felt slow, mindful, and deeply calming
I tried a gentle yoga class combined with Qi Gong and sound healing by Anna, and it was such a soothing experience. The session felt slow, mindful, and deeply calming — exactly what my body needed. Designed with soaring ceilings and sunlit practice rooms, The Flow Studio delivers a premium fitness environment. They operate a standalone flagship location in Bangsar with reformer beds, yoga mats, and high-end amenities.
The studio provides one-on-one private coaching sessions across yoga, mat Pilates, and reformer Pilates. They can also tailor the sessions specifically for injury rehabilitation, athletic conditioning, and prenatal or postnatal care.
We spoke with someone who attends their morning classes, and she loved how easy it is to share larger class packages with workout buddies.
Just keep in mind that group classes enforce a firm 12-hour cancellation window, and you forfeit your credit if you cancel late.
And while they offer creative dynamic flows, they don’t offer aerial yoga, so you’ll need to visit specialty studios that offer this style.

I personally like the dynamic yoga classes
There are a variety of classes to cater to students who are at different level of their yoga practise. Teachers are great, cues are pretty on point and they also give a lot of options to students.
I personally like the dynamic yoga classes. It’s the kind of class that helps you level up in your yoga practise. It can be intimidating if you are a beginner but the teachers always give options and will come and help you if you need support.

Hours: Monday – Sunday, 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Blended movement traditions come together in a warm, welcoming community setting tucked away on a quiet Bangsar street. Yogshakti is built around their signature Integrative Yoga methodology.
This unites Hatha Yoga with Himalayan, Scaravelli-inspired, Taoist Yin, Zen mindfulness, and Advaita Vedanta teachings into a cohesive practice.
Their classes cater smoothly to both newcomers and longtime practitioners by emphasising mindful alignment and breathwork over rigid poses. They even offer yoga training opportunities for yoga teachers, with 200-hour and 300-hour programs.
But if you prefer a single traditional style without mixed influences, this multifaceted approach might take some getting used to. Teachers can rotate without advance notice on the weekly schedule.
