The 5 Best Schools for Singing Lessons in Johor Bahru to Help You Master Your Voice
Last weekend’s karaoke night took an unexpected turn when one of my friends completely lost the beat halfway through a power ballad. The timing was off, the notes were…ambitious, and the rest of us were laughing so hard we nearly forgot the song.
Naturally, the teasing turned into a challenge: maybe we all needed proper singing lessons. After all, hitting the right notes and staying in tune probably takes more than blind confidence and a karaoke mic.
And so, we started looking around Johor Bahru for schools and tutors who offer singing lessons and could actually help. Below are JB’s top music schools where you can sharpen those vocals, and maybe rule the next karaoke night! Read on!
How much does a singing lesson in Johor Bahru cost?
In Johor Bahru, private singing lessons typically cost between RM70 and RM150 per hour, depending on the instructor’s expertise and whether you choose a local music academy or a freelance vocal coach.

S.A.M. Academy Music School has been around since 2000, building a steady reputation for nurturing young musicians in Johor Bahru.
Their approach goes beyond basic singing lessons. From what we’ve observed, they combine vocal training with music theory, giving students a good foundation.
We like how this academy also focuses on stage experience, with occasional recitals, concerts, and even competition opportunities.
In February 2026, some students participated in the ASAF Final International Music Competition in Hong Kong. They earned notable placements, which speaks of the calibre of training students receive here.
Even with these, the lessons aren’t rigid and high-pressure. Students we spoke with loved how their teachers created a supportive environment during lessons, which helped them feel comfortable and progressively become more confident.
On the downside, S.A.M. Academy Music School’s response to enquiries sometimes takes a little longer than expected. Additionally, trial sessions aren’t free; there’s an RM80 fee, but it’s worth it for the students to see if they’re a good fit.
Students get used to playing in front of others
“My daughter takes piano, cello, and vocal classes here, and my son is learning piano and cello as well. Both of them are really happy and excited to come for lessons every week. The teachers are patient and encouraging, and I like that the school organizes frequent events and small performances so the kids get used to playing in front of others. They also have competitions for students who want to challenge themselves and improve. We’re very happy with the school and grateful for the positive learning environment.”

Approach towards music learning is uniquely enriching
“The principal, Ms Goh and her team of music educators are very dedicated and really passionate about what they do. The academy’s approach towards music learning is uniquely enriching, constantly seeking for opportunities and allowing their students to be exposed to real-life performing experiences such as chamber music performances, orchestra, musical exchange programs with other institutions- be it in the country or overseas, and many other interesting programs.
Personally I have also had the privilege to perform and sang alongside her group of talented students- it was highly engaging and exceptionally fun. I strongly urge parents to seriously consider SAMAcademy as a key option in search of a conducive environment for their children’s musical journey.”

2. Secret Music Academy

Address: 50 B, Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/3, Taman Sutera Utama
Phone: +60167421818
Business Hours: Monday to Sunday – Open 24 hours
Contrary to its name, Secret Music Academy is quite a popular spot for singing lessons here in Johor Bahru.
Founded in 2007, it has trained thousands of students, including notable names like Chinese idol You Zhangjing and Malaysian singer Chen Jieyang. It’s also worth noting that Joyce Chu (Zhu Zhai) studied here.
Another thing that caught our attention is their teaching approach. They focus on helping students understand their voice step by step, moving from basic vocal control to more advanced techniques.
Several students shared that their instructors used everyday explanations that made vocal concepts easier to grasp, rather than burying them in technical jargon.
As for the lessons, we were pleasantly surprised to find them relatively affordable, given this school’s stature. Vocal lessons start at about RM380, while group sessions cost around RM160 per student. They also offer online classes, which adds flexibility.
The downside? Aside from the very limited parking spaces, we also found that free trial sessions are only offered occasionally and usually for a small number of participants. That’s why we have to keep an eye on their social media pages for regular updates!
Really helped students find their pitch
“I really like Serene’s class. She is a very patient teacher. When I was first tune-deaf, I couldn’t find my voice at all and often sang out of tune. She carefully helped me find my pitch, sentence by sentence. Now I have gradually found my pitch and rarely go out of tune. Thank you 🙏 I am very grateful to have met Serene. …”

Very patient and encouraging mentors
“My teacher is Serene. I’ve been studying here for a year and a half. 😍 At first, I was in a class with two students, but later I moved to one-on-one classes. I think I made the most progress in one-on-one classes because she had more time to focus on my articulation positions. 👍🏼 She’s patient and encouraging. ❤️
My high notes are now stable, and my family, colleagues, and friends all exclaim about my progress. I’m so happy. Two colleagues have also signed up to sing with my teacher. 🙆🏻♀️❤️”

3. The Piano Solution

Address: 5, Jalan Pertama 4, Pusat Perdagangan Danga Utama
Phone: +601155500365
Business Hours: Monday to Sunday – 10 AM to 8 PM
The Piano Solution offers voice lessons for both children and adults across different skill levels. Beginners start at RM365 for 45-minute sessions, which is relatively affordable.
They also offer online vocal classes, which are helpful for those with busy schedules.
We noticed that their strategy focuses on building techniques step by step, which helps beginners struggling with pitch or rhythm. Classes follow a structured method that gradually incorporates posture, vocal warm-ups, breathing control, and pitch exercises.
Mentors also personalise lessons according to each student’s pace and comfort level. They explained that beginners often spend more time practising breathing and pitch control before moving on to more complex pieces to build stronger foundations.
Some students shared that a few vocal coaches are strict during classes. This often happens when correcting posture, breathing, or pitch issues that affect vocal technique.
It’s also worth noting that this academy prepares students for ABRSM vocal exams up to Grade 8 and Trinity College London diploma pathways, which are useful for students who need these in school or for professional development.
Can easily learn to play pop songs
“Teacher Xiaoling’s teaching is simple and easy to understand. Even though I have no musical background, I can easily learn to play a pop song…”
– Chen Jessy (金优雪), Google Review
Professional and encouraging mentors
“As I always feel that my son could have more solid foundation and so I got Teacher Jeremy to teach him after he passed his ABRSM Grade 2 exam. At first, Xian Yang is very resistance to have a new piano teacher, however after a few lessons he grew quite fond of Teacher Jeremy! He finds that Teacher Jeremy is nice, gentle, professional and encouraging.
The lessons are tailored to suit Xian Yang’s learning style and pace and he is willing to practice with separate hands now! He will also provide guidance for the songs that Xian Yang choose to learn. Under the guidance of Teacher Jeremy, I believe Xian Yang can go well and further in his piano path~”

“Loft B’s teaching is truly professional. The teachers are not only technically skilled but also know how to teach children effectively, using encouragement to help them progress. The curriculum is clearly structured and the teaching is systematic, yet it maintains the warmth of music.
You can feel the teachers’ genuine love for music and their desire to pass that passion on to the children. I highly recommend it to parents who want their children to learn music long-term.”

5. DQ Rock Academy

Address: 19A, Jalan Kuning 1, Taman Pelangi
Phone: +60163046078
Business Hours:
- Tuesday to Wednesday – 10 AM to 6 PM
- Saturday – 9 AM to 5 PM
DQ Rock Academy has been active for over a decade and focuses strongly on performance-based learning.
Their programme doesn’t stop at vocal techniques alone. Students are encouraged to perform regularly through recitals and even recording sessions, which helps build stage confidence.
Moreover, the academy keeps classes engaging. Students are encouraged to explore contemporary music styles instead of focusing strictly on traditional training.
We noted how the teachers here are particularly good at handling online sessions. Parents praised them for maintaining consistent encouragement and feedback without letting quality slip.
Something worth noting is that their vocal lessons are mainly designed for younger students between the ages of five and eight. If older learners are looking specifically for singing classes, that might feel limiting.
That said, they offer other music programmes like guitar, drums, piano, and ukulele for older students. So while vocal training is for the children, they still cater to a broader age range through instrumental options.
Students enjoyed learning music
“Kitty had 7 piano lessons here during our short stay in JB with Teacher Zarif. She really enjoyed learning a Modern song with him and we enjoyed the mini piano recital on the last day.”
