As Malaysians, we’re used to humid weather all year round. But some days are just hotter and more unbearable than usual, and we need ways to beat the heat.
One of my favorite ways to do that is to go swimming – feeling the cool water, hearing families splashing around, and having cold drinks afterwards. It’s the best!
Since everyone deserves a good pool day, I decided to write about the best swimming pools in Malaysia as a handy reference. If you’re a parent looking for a fun summer activity or just need to get a few laps in, you’ve come to the right place.
National Aquatic Centre – Kuala Lumpur

The National Aquatic Centre is a training ground for athletes and a venue for prestigious swimming competitions and events. Its construction meets the standards of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), ensuring that everything is safe and well-maintained.
They have an Olympic-size swimming pool with 10 lanes, a diving pool with different platforms and springboards, and a training pool with 8 lanes. All the pools are temperature-controlled and purified with an ozone water treatment system.
The center offers a range of amenities, including clean changing rooms, a comfortable lobby area, and complimentary WiFi.
Although it serves as a venue for professional sports teams, the center is also open to the public for recreation. You just have to be mindful of checking the time slot for each session and the availability of the lanes.

The Chin Woo Stadium Pool makes swimming accessible, with affordable fees and a convenient location. We appreciate that the pool features clean and clear lanes, along with a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, allowing you to enjoy a peaceful swim.
The pool is an Olympic-size swimming pool, measuring 50 meters long and 25 meters wide, and is clean, well-maintained, and offers a good view of nature.
They offer a range of classes that you can avail of, including basic swimming courses, lifesaving training classes, competition training classes, school swimming classes, triathlon training courses, and diving courses. What we like is that there’s a class for every skill level.
If there’s one thing I can comment on, is that the washrooms and changing rooms could use some improvement. But aside from that, we think that Chin Woo Stadium Pool is a must-visit.

The Coronation Swimming Pool is recognized as one of the oldest public swimming pools in the country, having been constructed in 1937. Don’t be deterred by its color; the pool uses natural water flowing from the hills of Bukit Larut, so it doesn’t use chemicals.
Going here feels like a breath of fresh air – taking in beautiful views, dipping into cool, refreshing, and natural water, and hearing the sounds of nature all around you. Additionally, the entrance fee is also affordable.
By going to this pool, you’re not just enjoying a dip; you’re also supporting the protection of our heritage.

Melaka Wonderland Theme Park & Resort offers an all-around water park experience. As expected, it’s popular among young people due to its thrilling water slides and fun activities suitable for all ages.
The park boasts 11 attractions, including a Tornado Chaser slide, a lazy river where you can float around, a big wave pool, and an Adventure Island that kids will love. The entire park is surrounded by a rainforest, which keeps the atmosphere relaxing.
Aside from these fun attractions, we enjoyed the range of activities, including riding pedal boats, taking tube rides, and feeding the fish and rabbits. We can see how this can be an ideal spot for big families with small children and groups of friends.
They can also accommodate large groups with school and corporate packages, as well as special packages for families. Aside from that, we appreciate the clean washrooms, friendly staff, and the convenience of having restaurants on-site.

Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre

This aquatic center in Selangor is built with specifications of the International Swimming Federation. So, their pools are often used for aquatic sports training and competitions. Despite this, the center remains open to the public on specific timeslots and for a fee.
The Darul Ehsan Aquatic Center features four pools, two of which are indoor, while the other two are outdoor. They have an Olympic-size pool with 10 lanes and 50 meters long, and 25 meters wide.
Aside from the availability of both indoor and outdoor pools, we like going here because of the free parking and friendly staff.
Pro Tip: Call ahead to check the pool’s availability before going to avoid getting disappointed. Sometimes, the schedule changes because of competitions being held there. |
MMU Swimming Pool Complex

The MMU Swimming Pool Complex is located on the Multimedia University (MMU) campus in Cyberjaya. What’s unique about this pool is that it offers time slots specifically for women. Since it’s a university-affiliated pool, the fee is also minimal, and there’s ample free parking.
The washrooms and pool area are well-maintained, and there are regular lifeguards stationed by the pool.

Sunway Lagoon Water Park

If you’re looking for another great pool where you can bring your children, Sunway Lagoon Water Park is a good option. It offers large pools and various attractions for the entire family.
These attractions include the Vuvuzela, a large vortex ride, various water slides, an engaging water playground for children, a surf pool with a surf simulator, and even a 5D multi-sensory ride called the Waterplexx.

Penang’s City Park has many amenities open to the public, including a swimming pool. The best part is that access to this pool is free, making it perfect for those looking to have fun without spending too much.
Aside from the pool, there are also badminton and basketball courts, a kids’ play area, plenty of benches for parents to relax on, adult exercise equipment, an archery range, a skate park, a giant chessboard, and various art and graffiti walls that are perfect for taking pictures.
If you get hungry, there’s a shop to buy snacks and drinks. Please ensure you bring cash with you.
Pro Tip: The pools tend to be busy during weekends, so it’s best to go here in the early mornings during weekdays. |
MBPP Relau Sport Complex

The Relau Sport Complex is more well-known for its indoor badminton court, but it also features swimming pools and a diving pool where you can relax. The pool they have is an Olympic-size pool that’s open to the public for a fee.
We enjoy visiting this sports center because it’s well-maintained. The pools are clean, and the washrooms are decent. They also have ample parking space, which is always a plus.
It’s also convenient that they have an adjourned cafeteria where you can grab a bite to eat after a swim!

Permata Sports Complex

The Permata Sports Complex is popular among families for the different facilities they have for enjoying recreational sports. They have a 10-lane Olympic-size public pool where you can do laps.
Just note that the pool’s peak hours are from 5:30 PM to 7 PM. If you don’t like crowds, this is the time slot to avoid. Aside from a pool, they have courts to play squash, badminton, ping pong, and tennis.
Admittedly, the changing room is not the cleanest. That’s something to consider.
